Bring in the New Year with an Attitude of Gratitude - 30 Day Challenge
Last December I completed a 30 day gratitude challenge leading up to the New Year.
By the end of the challenge I felt a big change in awareness as I got into the habit of scanning my day for things to be grateful for.
I definitely experienced a shift from seeing the glass half empty to half full!
I even felt giddy at times because I had found a mini-superpower to feeling good.
This helped carry me into the coronavirus era. But as this year dragged on I felt my gratitude attitude wane.
A couple days ago I was walking down the main street of Provincetown in Cape Cod with my son when I noticed he was covering up his mouth with his coat.
Turns out he had forgotten his mask. So I rushed to a nearby booth to buy him a new one.
All the options available had sayings on them and the one I was drawn to was “2020 Sucks”. 🤨
I found myself grunting “yeah, it sure does” and encouraging him to buy it.
He was reluctant and not into my humor.
Then I paused and questioned if that was the kind of mantra and message I wanted to send my kid and myself.
So we looked for something uplifting. We struggled to find one that wasn’t “cringe” worthy. We finally agreed on one that had two guitars on it. 😆
This event made me realize I’m due for a gratitude attitude tune-up.
I’ve kept a gratitude journal for years but I’ve kind of let the practice slip recently. I only write in it when something big happens like when we escape NYC for the weekend or when I have an amazing hike.
So I’m launching my second annual gratitude challenge starting December 1st and I invite you to join me.
Unlocking the transformative power of gratitude is worth your time because studies show that it leads to:
More a satisfied life and a hopeful future.
Stronger relationships because of a tendency to show appreciation for loved ones.
Health benefits like stronger immunity, lower blood pressure and better sleep.
Improved mental health like reduced depression and anxiety.
Improved resilience, protecting us from the turbulence of an uncertain world.
Who doesn’t want more of that?!
All these benefits support us in our goals as women that work from home and want to show up as the best version of ourselves in all aspects of our life.
The thing is gratitude doesn’t just happen. We have to CHOOSE it. It’s a cultivated practice.
I’m starting the week off with a big shabang of 50 things I’m grateful for and then adding one thing a day over the next week.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the items on my list. I should have done this sooner this year.
Over the next month I’ll share strategies and tips for cultivating gratitude in my Master Working from Home Facebook group and on my Instagram page.
