Nature Nurtures Your Soul (Day 13 of 30)
One of the best ways I’ve found to maintain my sanity as an urban dweller over the last 14 years living in NYC is to get out in nature as much as a I can. I try to plan at least four hikes a season with family and friends, and build in vacations that are nature-oriented.
Nature heals the beating that my urban soul takes on a weekly basis with its remedies of solitude, fresh air and sunshine.
I treasure the whisper of the forest floor crackling and the trees swaying in the breeze. As well as those magical moments when you catch a glimpse of a wild animal scurrying across the path in front of you.
I soak in the greenery like it is a color going out of stock!
Growing up in the Middle East my father used to always half-jokling say whenever we were on a hike “SOAK in the green, it is GOOD for your eyes!” Now I see why! It is a rare commodity in NYC, just like it was a rare commodity growing up in the desert environment of the Middle East.
Most of all, I love the distant views that being in nature often provides. The ability to see more than a block or two away is a treat! I’m an avid hiker and we go on some magnificent hikes sometimes. I feel most at harmony with myself and with the world when I’ve reached the peak of a crest or a mountain and I am rewarded with views of distant mountains. My heart soars! 💕It is so much fun. I love the adventure and exercise it provides as well.
I always feel strong, confident, and harmonious in those moments. Always inspiring!
