It’s Normal to Feel Worried, Anxious or Uncertain About COVID-19

Worried, anxious, uncertain...on a rollercoaster of highs 😁 and lows 😣?

We are in unprecedented times, so for many of us our brains are on high alert. That is what our brains are wired to do. It is normal. There is nothing wrong with that.

Experts estimate that humans have 60-80 thousand thoughts a day. Most of our thoughts are unconscious, so it’s no surprise that if left unchecked they would veer towards the negative more often than not.

Give yourself lots of self-love and self-compassion during this time.

Allow yourself to feel any emotions that bubble up. Don’t resist, react or avoid your feelings.

Feelings are simply vibrations in your body. Yes, the negative ones can be very uncomfortable. But they are harmless unless you try to resist them which only magnifies the intensity of the discomfort. Reacting or acting out an emotion looks like yelling at your kids, hoarding toilet paper, slamming a door in anger, or sending an angry email to school teachers - an adult tantrum of sorts. Avoiding or burying an emotion is an attempt to dull the discomfort by over-drinking, over-eating or over-watching Netflix. It’s a temporary band-aid and often trades long-term well-being for short-term false pleasure.

So if you’ve got some negative emotions bubbling up triggered by thoughts around COVID-19 over the last couple of weeks let them buzz through you without resisting, reacting or avoiding them.

Notice where you are feeling them in your body. Get curious. Are they manifesting in your neck, chest, heart, hands, your whole body? Breathe into it.

Feelings are generated by your thoughts. Can you trace your feelings back to the thought that generated it? Ask yourself if it is really true. And if it is true, do you want to continue thinking the thought anyways? Is it serving you? The choice is yours. There is no right or wrong answer. The idea is to bring awareness to it and be intentional about your choice of thoughts. Sometimes we want to feel sad and angry. Other times we don’t. Only you know what is best for you.

How do you want to feel? What thoughts do you need to think to feel that way?

Why is this so important? Because our feelings drive every action we take (or don't take) and thus the results we create in our life.

It takes practice. Now is the perfect time to start bringing awareness to our thoughts and feelings.

Sending lots of love and light. ❤️
