Preemptively engage in self-care (3 of 30)

How many of you practice this daily? Be honest!

Most of us only grab the oxygen mask in an emergency.

But if we really want to serve ourselves, our loved ones and our communities with greater impact we have to learn to preemptively engage in self-care.

I thought I was fairly good at this. I’d regularly set aside time for yoga, hiking, girlfriends, solo travel, quiet time, etc. But I realized it was just enough to SURVIVE, not necessarily THRIVE.

My migraines hit peak levels a year ago, occurring almost daily. I’d always been healthy and active in managing them, but this was a wake up call on a whole new level. It was an alarm bell ringing loud and clear.

I committed to making radical changes including cutting out alcohol, sugar, caffeine, eggs, dairy, wheat, exploring daily migraine meds and establishing other healthy lifestyle habits that I’d only dabbled in before. The result, was an 80% reduction in migraines, brain fog, and a bonus weight loss. Most importantly, I have so much more love to offer my family, clients, and the world!

Big takeaway … Don’t wait until your body is screaming at you to take action, practice radical self-care BEFORE you crash and burn. 😁

Many of us are too busy in our daily lives to stop and give this much thought. We have kids, demanding jobs, busy schedules, and lots to juggle.

Others, especially us martyrdom moms, seem to think sacrificing ourselves at the alter of our kids earns us brownie points.

Let those thoughts go! They serve no one. If you don’t know where to begin, start with unconditional self-love. When you can learn to tap into that, the rest will follow more easily.

✨See you tomorrow for Day 4 of 30 lessons learned from 2019!
