Core Values Can Speed and Ease Decision-Making
Do you experience decision fatigue when you have a lot on your plate? If so, you aren’t alone.
I’ve had a lot on my plate over the last couple months planning our move to Australia. Tuning into my core values along the way has made decision making so much easier.
I have my top 6 core values written on a card that sits inside my daily planner to help me remember to check in on them when planning.
My top 6 core values are love, connection, curiosity, adventure, freedom and community.
More often than not, when I’m feeling off, indecisive or uncomfortable about a decision I’ve made it is because I’m out of alignment with one or more of them.
Recently I’ve been more proactive about checking in on them before I make a decision. I’ve found it is almost comical how much quicker I make decisions when I check for alignment.
Each of us has a different definition of what a particular value means, so it’s helpful to define what they mean to us.
I often check in for alignment with my values by asking myself questions. For example, with regards to love, I ask “What would love do in this situation? What would it look like to act in a loving way towards myself or others?”
Or with regards to connection, I ask “Does this nurture the deep connection I crave with myself or others?” I have questions for each of my core values that help me bring clarity around a decision. With freedom I like to ask myself, “Does this make me feel free or shackled? Open or closed? Following my heart or others' expectations?”
What are your core values? Spend some time deciding what they mean to you. What questions would help you check-in to see if you are in alignment with them or not?
Visit these values and questions when you’re struggling to make a decision, and notice how it helps bring clarity, ease and speed your decision making process.
