Morning Routines Set The Tone For The Day - Set Yourself Up For Success

Do you have a morning routine that starts off your day on the right foot and sets you up for success?

A good morning routine often starts the night before.

The days I’m most productive are those when I’ve managed to review my goals the night before, laid out my workout clothes, eaten a healthy dinner and gone to bed by 10 pm. That way I wake up refreshed and clear on what my goals are for the day.

If I didn’t have a nurturing morning routine, I’d find it too tempting to respond to work emails as soon as I woke up. I have old workaholic tendencies that I have to keep in check sometimes. Or I’d waste time scrolling on social media, reading the news or engaging in the kids’ morning drama.

Instead I wake up at 6 am, meditate, have a glass of water and a cup of decaf tea, journal, workout or go for a walk, shower, eat a light breakfast, interact with the kids, briefly tidy the house and start my workday by 9/9:30 am.

This routine creates a separation between my home and work life. It keeps me from shocking my system by immediately jumping on my screens as soon as I wake up.

You don’t have to follow a routine that doesn’t feel like you. Create a unique one that gets you excited to start your day.

I highly recommend building one around the skeletal foundation of:

  • Waking up at the same time every day

  • Refraining from checking your screens or work emails/texts for as long as possible

  • Getting dressed (don’t work in your PJs all day)

  • Exercise or some kind of movement to start your day (walking and fresh air are great)

Tweak it to fit your personality and interests.

Play around with what works for you. There is no right or wrong.

Remember, my kids are older now, ages 11 and 14. My morning routine looked much different when they were younger. Adjust according to the parenting stage you are in at the moment.

Give yourself the gift of a morning routine and set the tone for the day. You deserve it.

Let me know what routines have worked well for you and which haven't.
