10 Lessons from Our Trek to Peru

I recently got back from an amazing 11 day trek to Peru with my teenage boys, 6 days of which were hiking the Ausangate trek at elevations of mostly 14,000-17,000 ft.

The trip turned out to be both extraordinary and challenging at the same time. A reminder that life can be extraordinary with all its imperfections.

Below are my top ten takeaways from our trip. You’ll notice they are applicable to our everyday lives as well.

You’ve spent the last two weeks practicing noticing your feelings and allowing them. Now what?

You can just let them be because that is life. Nothing is wrong with you, it is part of the human experience. You can’t appreciate happiness if you don’t know what sadness is, and vice versa.

You can also get curious about them.

Simplify Your To-Do List with the 80/20 Rule

Do you look at your long to-do list and just want to zone out like these two glassy eyed dudes from the Sydney Zoo?! 🤣 We all experience this sometimes and get stuck.

Normalize Fear and Get Curious About It

I want to normalize fear a bit. It’s a normal part of the humane experience. There is nothing faulty with us if we feel it.

When you shine the light on them, own them and question them, you weaken their hold on you and open up the space to pursue them. The second step is taking the time to visualize your dream in detail, so you can feel the fun and excitement of it NOW instead of later. It will increase your chances of sticking to your commitment and following through. Today, I want to discuss the third step - planning the details and taking your first tiny step. There are so many ways to plan, from creating a super detailed plan to outlining a general blueprint.

Gratitude Tune-Up: 30-Day Challenge

As concerns over the Omricron variant grow, I'm particularly grateful that my third annual 30-day gratitude tune-up starts on December 1st. 🤨😁 I started this challenge a few years ago and by the end of the challenge I felt a BIG change in attitude as I got more into the habit of scanning my day for things to be grateful for. I learned to see the glass half full versus half empty. So I made it an annual tradition during the month of December. It is a great way to bring in the new year.
